NYU Sweeps Doubleheader at RPI

NYU Sweeps Doubleheader at RPI

From NYU Athletics

The New York University baseball team traveled to Troy, NY, for a doubleheader against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, April 7. And, the Violets (19-4) made sure the trip was worth it with a sweep of the Engineers.

After winning a close first game by a score of 4-2, the Violet offense exploded for a 16-2 win over RPI (11-10) in the nitecap.

Cameron Serapilio-Frank went eight innings in the opener to raise his season record to 6-0. He allowed seven hits and did not walk a better while striking out four. Gabriel Golob struck out two while pitching a perfect ninth inning for his first career save.

Each team scored a run in both the second and fourth innings. Francis Prior drove in one of the Violets' run, while the other came in on an error.

The scored was still tied 2-2 entering the seventh, but NYU went ahead on Coltrane Tait's sacrifice fly. The Violets plated an insurance run on Colman Hendershot's RBI single in the eighth.

In the second game, the Violets set the tone with three runs in the first. They scored one more in the top of the second and RPI countered with two in the bottom of the frame.

However, that was as close as the Engineers would get as NYU tacked on three more runs in the fourth and then put the game out of reach with five more in their next at-bat. Hendershot and Ryan McLaughlin each knocked in two runs in that decisive fifth inning.

Tim Salvadore was the beneficiary of his team's offensive outburst, as he scattered four hits and a walk over his six innings to improve to 4-1 on the season. He struck out two and exited after an efficient 78-pitch performance.

Sal Cammisuli pitched a scoreless final three innings to pick up his second save of the campaign.

"We grinded it out in the opener and then really got the bats going after that," explained Head Coach Doug Kimbler. "We received terrific efforts from all of our pitchers and put together the type of performance today that really shows what we are capable of."
