Washington Universtiy Concludes Florida Trip with 6-1 Win Over Salve Regina

The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team concluded its spring break trip in Florida with a 6-1 victory over Salve Regina University Wednesday morning.

The Bears improved to 7-5 on the year while junior pitcher John Howard picked up his third win of the season. The Seahawks fell to 4-3 on the year with all but one of their games coming in Florida at the RussMatt Invitational. WashU went 3-2 on the Florida trip in which all five opponents were either ranked or receiving votes in D3baseball.com's top-25 poll.

Howard was in dominant form throwing 6.1 innings, allowing five hits, walking two and allowing an unearned run while striking out five. He improved his season record to 3-0 as freshman Tim Tague completed the final 2.2 innings with three strikeouts and just one hit.

The Bears offense produced all six of its runs in the top of the second inning on six hits and one walk. Freshman Henry Singer, junior Evan Nagel, senior Auggie Mense and sophomore John Ostrander all knocked in one run before sophomore John Brinkman's two-out double scored two runners for a 6-0 WashU lead.

The Red & Green were held to a pair of bunt singles by Singer and Mense the rest of the way. Salve scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a pair of hits and a throwing error.

Mense and Singer led WashU with two hits apiece, while Brinkman produced a team-leading two RBIs. The Bears outscored their Florida competition 32-18.
