John Howard of Washington University Named D3baseball.com National Pitcher of the Year

Senior John Howard of the Washington University in St. Louis baseball team was named the 2019 D3baseball.com National Pitcher of the Year and as an All-America First Team selection.

Joining Howard with All-America honors was junior John Brinkman who earned honorable mention status as a utility player.

JOHN HOWARD

Howard was named to the honorable mention 2019 D3baseball.com Preseason All-America list and more than lived up to expectations with his senior campaign. The two-time Central Region and University Athletic Association (UAA) Pitcher of the Year capped the year off with several marks that were among the best in Division III: wins (11), earned run average (1.33), strikeouts (100), strikeout-to-walk ratio (7.69) and WHIP (0.92). Howard's win total ranked fourth in DIII while his 1.33 ERA ranked seventh.

The two-time All-America honoree concluded his career with the second best ERA (1.78), seventh in wins (21), seventh in strikeouts (204) and 10th in innings pitched (223). In 2018, Howard posted the program's best ERA by a starting pitcher in program history (1.01).

JOHN BRINKMAN

Brinkman was selected to his first All-America honor of his career following a junior season which he produced career-highs in hits (70), runs (35), home runs (three), runs batted in (51), stolen bases (nine), batting average (.417), on-base percentage (.464) and slugging percentage (.536). He was also a top-notch closer that did not surrender an earned run in 11.2 innings of work converting five saves and striking out 17 batters.
