Sophomore pitcher Ryan Loutos of the Washington University in St. Louis baseball team was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Loutos double majors in computer engineering and math and completed his second year on the Danforth Campus with a 3.91 grade point average. He is the 14th CoSIDA Academic All-America selection in program history and first since 2015. Loutos is just the second Bears pitcher to earn the honor, joining Dom Quaranta, who was selected to the Third Team in 2013.

The two-time All-Region honoree finished 2019 with a 2-1 record while tossing 71 innings, limiting opponents to 55 hits and 16 walks while striking out 92 batters. Loutos posted career-best numbers in innings pitched, strikeouts and earned run average, 1.77. He is 17 strikeouts shy of entering the top-10 all-time in program history, as he currently has 167 punch outs.

WashU tied a program best with 34 wins this season and finished 10-1-1 when Loutos started the game. He allowed two earned runs or less in 10 starts this season and reached double digit strikeouts in four contests. On April 28, Loutos set a personal-best with 15 punch outs in a 2-1 victory over Monmouth (Ill.).
