University of Chicago Head Football Coach Chris Wilkerson announced on Thursday that Justin Weaver has been promoted to Defensive Coordinator and Bo Flowers has been hired as Secondary Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.

Weaver wrapped up his second season on the Maroons football staff in the fall. He was previously the Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach. In 2013, UChicago achieved national rankings in several defensive categories, including No. 15 in scoring defense (14.4 points per game), No. 22 in total defense (285.6 yards per game) and No. 17 in turnover margin (+1.2).

As a college football player, Weaver played for Lehigh University from 2004-07, during which time he was a member of two Patriot League champion squads (2004, 2006). He earned a bachelor's degree in Africana studies from Lehigh in 2008 before receiving a master's degree in African American studies from Morgan State in 2010.

Flowers arrives at UChicago from Eastern Michigan University, where he served for two years as the defensive graduate assistant coach. Flowers played collegiate football at the University of Illinois (2007-09) and Illinois State University (2010). He was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team while at Illinois State.

Additionally, Flowers was a stand-out baseball player who was drafted in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Detroit Tigers. He played for four years in the minor league systems of the Tigers and the Chicago Cubs.

Flowers was an Illinois All-State selection in football and baseball as a prep and was named the Chicago Sun-Times Male Athlete of the Year in 2002.
