Dayton Snyder & Scott Suren Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Team

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior football players Dayton Snyder (West Lafayette, Ind. / West Lafayette) and Scott Suren (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) were each named to the Academic All-America First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), based on their athletic and academic achievements during their time as Spartans.

Snyder and Suren are the 25th and 26th players in the history of the Case Western Reserve University football team to be named Academic All-Americans, and the 15thand 16th to earn a spot on the First Team.  They are the CWRU football team's first honorees since the 2011 season, and it marked the first time that multiple Spartans have earned Academic All-America First Team recognition in the same season since 1996.

This was the first Academic All-America of each player's career.  Both Snyder and Suren earned a spot on the Academic All-America ballot after being selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team earlier in the season.

The two Academic All-America honors also increase CWRU's total to 89 since the inception of the program.  Case Western Reserve's 86 Academic All-Americans to begin the year ranked as the 14th-most among NCAA Division III institutions and are tied for 59th among all collegiate athletic programs.  CWRU was one of just two schools, along with Saint John's (Minn.), with multiple players selected to the Division III Football Academic All-America First Team.

Snyder, a defensive end, was named to the All-University Athletic Association First Team and the All-Presidents' Athletic Conference Second Team following the 2015 season.  It marked his third-straight season receiving All-UAA recognition.  Snyder finished the year with 46 total tackles, including 4.5 sacks and 8.5 total for a loss.  He also forced a fumble and broke up a pair of passes during the year.

Academically, Snyder has a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a Biomedical Engineering major at Case Western Reserve.  He earned Academic All-UAA honors for the third-straight season in 2015.

Suren, who has played both safety and outside linebacker during his career, received All-UAA First Team recognition for his play last season, while also being named as an honorable mention to the All-PAC Team.  It was his third-straight year receiving All-UAA honors, after being named to the All-UAA Second Team each of the previous two years.  Suren totaled 42 tackles and a pair of sacks during the season, while also forcing one fumble, recovering another and notching an interception.  He also broke up nine passes during the year, and earned PAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on October 5th, following his performance against Bethany College.

Suren, a Mechanical Engineering major, has a 3.96 cumulative grade point average at CWRU.  He is a three-time Academic All-UAA honoree as well.

CWRU finished the season with a 7-3 overall record.  The Spartans tied for third in the PAC with a 6-2 record in league games, and were 1-2 in UAA contests.
