Bears' Quincy Marting to Play in Bowl of the Stars in Mexico

Washington University in St. Louis senior cornerback Quincy Marting will represent Team Stars & Stripes at the Seventh Annual Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars).

Under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Don DeWaard (Central College), the Americans will train at the Mexicali, UABC and CETYS University campuses in Tijuana. On Saturday, Dec. 19, the team will take on the CONADEIP All Stars selected from the CONADEIP private universities in Mexico at the Margarita Astiazrán de Fimbres Stadium in Baja. The Tazón de Estrellas series between the rivals is tied at 3-3.

Marting, a first-team D3football.com All-South Region selection, led the Bears with 84 tackles, 17 pass break-ups and four interceptions in 2015. He led the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) and ranked 14th in NCAA Division III in pass break-ups, and was also second in interceptions. Marting earned D3football.com Team of the Week honors on Nov. 17 after recording a career-high 16 tackles (13 solo) and an interception vs. the University of Chicago Nov. 14.

He earned first-team all-SAA and second-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors in 2015, and was a three-time UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week and two-time SAA Athlete of the Week honoree. Marting appeared in 39 career games with 197 tackles, 34 pass break-ups and 11 interceptions.

WashU finished the 2015 season with a 6-4 overall record, securing its 21st winning season under head coach Larry Kindbom. The Bears were co-champions of the UAA with a 2-1 mark, and tied for fourth in the SAA with a 5-3 record.

Global Football president Patrick Steenberge has developed and organized the Tazón de Estrellas in association with CONADEIP and Division III schools in the United States since 2009, after having produced the Aztec Bowl for 11 years from 1997 to 2007.
