Four Maroons Named CoSIDA Academic All-District in Football and Volleyball

From University of Chicago Athletics

A quartet of student-athletes from the University of Chicago were honored with Academic All-District distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The All-District selections advance to the national ballot, which will name Academic All-Americans in early December.

Maren Loe represents UChicago volleyball on the All-District team. Loe is a senior outside hitter majoring in computational and applied mathematics. So far this season, she ranks fifth in the nation in kills (499) and owns the school record for kills in a career (1,899). Loe is hitting .243 with a team-best 36 service aces to go with 312 digs and 44 blocks. In the last week, she was named to the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic Team for the third year in-a-row.

Maroon football earned three selections to the All-District squad. Senior Vincent Beltrano led the way at his cornerback position. He is a public policy and political science major. Beltrano tied the school's career record in interceptions (15) this season and is one of the active career leaders in NCAA Division III. He ranks third on the team in tackles with 55 while pacing the defensive unit in passes defended (11) and interceptions (4). The senior has also been named UAA All-Academic for the past three years. Earlier in the year, he was voted to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Burke Moser was an All-District pick at his quarterback position. The junior took the reins at signal caller to begin the season and has produced a 57.8 completion percentage for 1,989 passing yards (248.6 yards per game) and 19 touchdowns. He currently ranks third in the school's history in season touchdown passes, with 21 standing as the record. He is a two-time UAA All-Academic Team member majoring in economics.

Running back Chandler Carroll rounded out UChicago's All-District selections. A sophomore economics major, Carroll has run for 913 yards, 4.6 yards per carry and nine touchdowns. Back in September, he broke the school record for rushing yards in a game with 311 in a win over Centre College. Carroll is 87 yards away from reaching 1,000 rushing yards in a season, which would be the eighth such occurrence in the team's modern era. He has also caught 15 passes for 99 yards out of the backfield and threw a touchdown pass himself versus Hendrix College. Carroll received UAA All-Academic status last week for the first time.
