Eight UAA student-athletes, representing all four Association football schools, were named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America@ Football Team.
2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America@ Football Team
Four student-athletes, including three from Carnegie Mellon University, were named to the first team. Senior defensive lineman and two-time UAA Defensive Player of the Year Brian Khoury (electrical and computer engineering) and junior running back Sam Benger (business administration) of the Tartans were each named to the first team after garnering second team honors last year. Senior teammate and offensive lineman W. Tyler Reid (electrical and computer engineering) earned Academic All-America recognition for the first time and was named to the first team.
Senior wide receiver Brendan Lynch (chemical engineering) of Case Western Reserve University alos earned first team honors in his first time on the Academic All-America team.
One student-athlete from each of the four institutions that sponsor football in the UAA received second team Academic All-America accolades.
Senior defensive back Samer Abdelmoty (mechanical engineering) gave Carnegie Mellon four Academic All-America honorees. Senior defensive back Nick Kwon (biochemistry) joined Lynch as CWRU honorees.
Senior running back Austin Smestad (chemical engineering) of Washington University and junior running back Chandler Carroll (economics) were each named second team Academic All-Americans.
