From University of Chicago Athletics

The National Football Foundation inducted 10 University of Chicago football players into the 2017 Hampshire Honor Society on Wednesday.

The academic recognition was shared by 1,089 student-athletes from 297 schools. The Maroons were represented by 10 seniors, including linebacker Jackson Garrey, defensive tackle Eddie Giannina, wide receiver John Gormley, long snapper Joseph Greene, linebacker Hayden Harrow, offensive lineman Andrew Maneval, defensive lineman Alec Miller, quarterback Burke Moser, wide receiver Syd Reynolds and linebacker Tim Veselik. Over their four years at UChicago, the seniors posted a cumulative four-year record of 24-15 (.615 winning percentage).

Now in its 11th year of existence, the Hampshire Honor Society requires the following qualifications for membership:

• Being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft) at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university;
• Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
• Meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
