From University of Chicago Athletics

University of Chicago football player Chandler Carroll was recently named as a nominee for the 2017 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team.

Now in its 26th year, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team seeks to honor college football players for their dedication to volunteerism and enriching the lives of others. Each nominee for the prestigious accolade must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.

A total of 146 players have been submitted for consideration. The Good Works Team will be comprised of 22 award recipients – 11 from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The honorees will be announced in mid-September.

An economics major, Carroll is embarking on his senior season as UChicago's starting running back. In 2016, he totaled the fifth-most rushing yards in school history with 1,077 yards (4.8 yards per carry). He was also active in the passing game, making a team-high 74 catches for 665 yards. Carroll totaled 15 touchdowns (eight rushing, seven receiving) and finished the season ranked 12th in NCAA Division III with 174.2 all-purpose yards per game.

Carroll's efforts on the field were recognized with First Team All-Conference awards from the University Athletic Association (UAA) and the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). He was also picked to the SAA All-Sportsmanship Team.

His work in the classroom was also recognized, as he was named a 2016 Second Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
