Senior punter Tyler Kohman (Pataskala, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and senior wide receiver John Prather (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team participated and will be participating in postseason collegiate bowl games, in preparation for what they both hope will translate to play at the next level.
On December 16, Kohman played in the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) Division III Senior Bowl in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On January 6th through January 10th, Prather will be competing at the College Gridiron Showcase & Symposium in Addison, Texas. Prather then will head to Daytona Beach, Florida, January 12-14 to compete in the Tropical Bowl.
Kohman, who was named to three All-America teams this past season, ended his senior campaign as the top punter in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and University Athletic Association (UAA) with an average of 45.7 yards per punt, which ranked second nationally and set the program's single-season record. Kohman had 16 punts of 50 yards or more including a career-best 62-yarder. Kohman placed 21 of his 45 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He leaves Carnegie Mellon as the program's leader in punts and yards per punt for a career. He recorded 209 punts in his four years for an average of 41.2 yards per punt.
Prather ended his senior season with 1,032 yards, 11 receiving touchdowns and 63 receptions which led the UAA and was second in the PAC. He became the first Tartan to record back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Prather tied the school single-game reception record with 10 in the Tartans' win at Bethany. His 11 touchdown receptions in 2017 tied for the most in a single-season for a Tartan. Prather ended his career as the school's all-time receiving leader (3,077), receptions leader (194) and touchdown receptions leader (25). He also set the singles-season school record with 1,125 receiving yards and 66 receptions his junior season.
