Washington University in St. Louis sophomore punter Johnny Davidson earned 2017 D3football.com Third-Team All-America honors, as announced Friday by the website.

Davidson is the third punter in in the 121-year history of the WashU football program to earn All-America honors, joining Eric Nyhus (1989, 1990) and Josh Haza (1995).

"Johnny Davidson is a throwback to the athlete who can run, pass, and kick. He works hard at what he does on the field and in the classroom, and represents well the student-athletes at Washington University," said WashU head football coach Larry Kindbom. "Johnny is a beneficiary of having good coverage units around him, as they placed WashU in the top-10 in the country in net punt the past two years. He made a difference in every game this year as a punter."

Davidson, a second-team D3football.com All-South Region and honorable-mention all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, ranked second in the conference and fourth in NCAA Division III in punting average (41.9). He punted 37 times for 1,550 yards with a career-best 73-yarder at Washington and Lee on Oct. 7.

Davidson was a two-time D3football.com Team of the Week and UAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week selection. The Bears' punt team led the conference and ranked seventh in NCAA Division III in net punting (37.76).

He enters his junior season ranked first in school history in punting average (41.4).

Davidson also earned honorable-mention all-UAA honors at quarterback, starting the final seven games under center. He completed 195-of-295 pass attempts for 2,035 yards and 16 touchdowns. Davidson also ran the ball for 288 yards and three TDs. He ranked first in the UAA in completion percentage (66.1) and second in passing yards per game (226.1).
