Three Carnegie Mellon University athletes have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team for both the men and the women with two being honored for the second straight year.  Senior tennis athlete Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) is joined by senior golfer Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) on the first team while sophomore Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) found a spot on the second team.

Cecil, one of two repeat selections on this year’s All-America First Team, finished her senior year for the Tartans with a singles record of 13-2 while carrying a 4.0 GPA with a major in biological sciences with a neuroscience tract.  The senior earned her second straight NCAA Elite 89 Award for women's tennis which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 89 championships. She ended her three-year career with the Tartans winning 48 singles matches and 44 doubles matches after transferring from Tulane University.  Additionally this season, Cecil earned All-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team at No. 3 singles for her unbeaten performance during the Tartans run to second place at the UAA Championship.

Bangor, a 2013 second team honoree and business administration major with a 3.85 GPA, finished with a 75.2 stroke average this past season, with an event win, three top-three and seven top-10 finishes.  It marked the fourth straight season he led the team in scoring average. Bangor was a 2013 PING All-American and NCAA Championships competitor, he earned All-University Athletic Association honors twice, finished with a 75.2 career stroke average and is the school’s all-time wins leader with 10 in his career. The senior is a four-time PING Mid-Atlantic Region Team member and two-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.

Cecil and Bangor were recently inducted into Carnegie Mellon University’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

Alla is a civil and environmental engineering major with a minor in business administration and currently carries a 3.85 GPA. The sophomore won the USTA/ITA National Small College Singles Championship in October, earning All-America honors. He helped lead the Tartans to the program's first-ever appearance in the University Athletic Association Championship title match and sixth visit to the NCAA tournament. He ended the season with a singles record of 25-9 while advancing to the round of 16 at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, earning All-America honors for the spring. For his career, Alla has amassed a singles record of 42-15, earned UAA Athlete of the Week four times with three coming in 2013-14 and was named the 2013 ITA Atlantic South Rookie of the Year and an ITA Scholar Athlete.
