The Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) announced on Tuesday, March 15, that Jeffrey Bernstein, New York University's Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information, was selected as the College Division recipient of the annual Irving T. Marsh Award.

The official description as written on the ECAC-SIDA website is: "The Irving T. Marsh Awards are given annually to a University (Division I or II) and College Division (Division III, NAIA or Junior College) ECAC-SIDA member who, in the opinion of the membership and Executive Board, has exhibited excellence in the field of sports information. The awards are presented annually at the spring workshop. First presented in 1966, the awards are named after Irving T. Marsh, the ECAC Service Bureau founder and director until his retirement in 1973."

"It is a great honor for Jeff and a tribute to his long years of service within the profession," said Chris Bledsoe, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics at NYU. "To be put in the same company as past winners of the Marsh Award is certainly an accomplishment for Jeff, as well as a credit to everyone here at NYU and all of our student-athletes. We are very proud and congratulate him and his family on this award."

Bernstein, who has held his post with NYU since October of 1999, served as President of ECAC-SIDA during the 2010-11 academic year and helped the organization increase membership, sponsorship and visibility. After joining the organization's Board of Directors as its Chairman of Membership Services in 2004, he stepped into the presidential rotation in 2008-09 as Second Vice President and then First Vice President in 2009-10. He completed his tenure by serving as Past President in 2011-12.

Bernstein, who also serves on the Executive Board of the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA), earned the organization's "Mike Cohen Good Guy Award" in 2003, an honor that is presented annually "to someone who has been especially friendly and helpful to the media, often going above and beyond to make their jobs easier and more pleasant." Bernstein was also cited by the American Volleyball Coaches Association ( AVCA ) as a Grant Burger Media Award regional honoree in 2006, 2007 and again in 2011.

Also a member of the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), Bernstein's proposal to initiate a Division III Men's and Women's National Player of the Week Award was accepted by the organization prior to the 2014-15 season, and Bernstein now serves as Chairman of the Division III Selection Committee.

"To be recognized by one's peers is truly an honor," Bernstein said. "This is a great profession, and I have enjoyed working with so many others who work tirelessly in support of their universities and student-athletes. I appreciate the help I have received throughout my years from other Sports Information Directors and from my staff, and I hope I have provided assistance to them, as well." 

The Marsh Award will formally be presented to Bernstein at the organization's annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, June 9, in Lancaster, PA.
