From Emory University Athletics

Elise Viox, a standout performer on the Emory women's cross country team, has been selected as a recipient of the 2015 Fall NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, a prestigious honor granted to graduating athletes for their achievements on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Viox will each receive a one-time $7,500 scholarship, to be used for postgraduate study within three years. Emory has now been awarded 98 postgraduate scholarships over the school's history, and its 81 since 2000 is second only to Stanford for the highest total by any NCAA member.  

Viox was named the Eagles' Most Outstanding Performer this past year after ranking as the team's top runner in all eight competitions. She took home first place at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships out of 200 runners, the first Emory runner to accomplish that since 2010.  Named by the University Athletic Association as its Runner of the Week on three occasions, Viox captured Second Team All-UAA honors following her performance at the conference championships. She helped the Eagles to back-to-back NCAA South/Southeast Championships and raced to all-region honors on three occasions during her career. She competed in the D-III national cross country championships three times, and her personal-best time of 22:01 at the 2015 event tied the program's third-best mark.

Viox, who earned her undergraduate degree in biology/human health, was nominated for the scholarship with a 3.64 grade-point average. She was a member of the Dean's List of Emory College and a three-time All-Academic honoree in cross country as chosen by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as well as a three-time honoree on the UAA All-Academic Team.

Elise is currently working as a fellow at the National Institute of Child Health and Development.  She plans on applying to Immunology PhD programs and begin grad school in 2017.
