Washington University wrapped up its record-breaking season by finishing second in the 2016-17 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, as announced Thursday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Washington University had 18 of 19 teams compete in NCAA Tournament action, and recorded 12 top-10 finishes nationally. The Bears also won 10 University Athletic Association (UAA) titles and posted a combined sports record of 197-69-5 (.736).
The women's soccer team, women's indoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field team each won the NCAA Division III National Championship to increase WashU's total to 22. The Bears also had top-five finishes by women's cross country (second), volleyball (second), men's cross country (fourth), men's tennis (fifth), women's basketball (fifth) and women's tennis (fifth).
Emory University also eaned a top-10 finish, placing ninth. The ninth-place finish represents the 16th time in the past 17 years that Emory has recorded a top-10 showing -- 2000-01 (fourth), 2001-02 (fifth), 2002-03 (second), 2003-04 (second), 2004-05 (eighth), 2005-06 (fourth), 2006-07 (ninth), 2007-08 (seventh), 2008-09 (sixth), 2009-10 (18th) , 2010-11 (seventh), 2011-12 (sixth), 2012-13 (second), 2013-14 (sixth), 2014-15 (eighth) and 2015-16 (third). Emory registered a final total of 765.25 points.
The Eagles captured NCAA titles in women's and men's swimming and diving as well as men's tennis. Emory athletics also claimed six UAA championships this past school year – volleyball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and golf.
University of Chicago finished 15th, marking the second time in school history that the Maroons have finished in the top 15. Last year's 14th-place showing was the University's highest ever in the 22-year history of the Directors' Cup program.
Four Maroon spring sports made appearances at their respective NCAA Championships – women's tennis (NCAA quarterfinals), men's tennis (NCAA Round of 16), softball (NCAA regionals) and women's track and field. All told, UChicago had seven teams and 43 individuals qualify for the postseason over the fall, winter and spring seasons.
NYU finished 40th, Carnegie Mellon University placed 44th, and University of Rochester finished 49th to give the UAA six teams in the top-50 among the 325 NCAA Division III schools who qualified for at least one NCAA championship.
