Carnegie Mellon SAAC Holds Annual Field Day for Community

From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

On Sunday, April 8 more than 70 children from the Pittsburgh community came to Carnegie Mellon University’s campus to participate in the eighth annual Carnegie Mellon Athletics Field Day.

Sunday’s event included sport stations spread around the athletics facilities, from the football field to Wiegand Gym inside the Cohon University Center. Carnegie Mellon student-athletes led fun activities in soccer and football outside, while volleyball and basketball activities took place inthe gym.

Sophomore Isaac Mills of the men’s track and field team led the organization of the event for the second year.

"Once again, it was a great event in which many kids from the community were able to come together and learn fun ways to be active with different sports," said Mills. "It's enjoyable for all of us to share the fun we have with sports with kids."

Field Day has been hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) each April since 2011 when it was established by then-football and track and field student-athlete Liam McGrath. A mathematics major, McGrath created Field Day after working with children in sports camps during his summers as an athlete.
