Emory Athletics to Celebrate DIII Week

Emory Athletics to Celebrate DIII Week

From Emory University Athletics

Emory University will celebrate NCAA Division III Week, which begins Monday, April 2nd and continues until Sunday, April 8th. This week is an opportunity for the 450 member schools of NCAA DIII to recognize and promote the achievements of student-athletes on and off the field. Emory University is joining in the nation-wide celebration by highlighting the academic, athletic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular achievements of our own student-athletes.

More than 185,000 student-athletes make up Division III, the largest NCAA division both in number of participants and number of schools. Emory University's student-athletes thrive in the DIII community with approximately 400 student-athletes playing on 18 intercollegiate teams. Emory has a total of 24 Division III National Championship titles and 192 University Athletic Association Conference Championships. We have finished among the top 10 Division III programs in the Director's Cup in 16 of the last 17 years. The Director's Cup honors institutions maintaining a broad-based athletic program, achieving success in many men’s and women’s sports. In 2016-17, the Eagles placed ninth out of 324 schools that scored points and currently holds the sixth place spot after winter sports in the 2017-18 standings.

Emory athletes have distinguished themselves both on the field and in the classroom, racking up over 970 All-America honors since 1983-84, 183 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 111 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships including 94 since 2000 which is the second most during that period behind only Stanford University.

The true essence of Division III athletics is the full integration of student-athletes into the campus culture and to stand for the three D’s of the Division - to discover, develop, and dedicate. This week is dedicated to celebrating our student athletes and supporting them to, “follow your passion and develop your potential.” Click here to see what’s to come around campus during this year’s DIII Week.
