UAA Alumni Feature: Former Emory University Golfer Johnathan Chen

True to lessons learned from his father, former Emory University golfer Johnathan Chen believed sports were a great focal point of being disciplined, having the right attitude, and preparing to perform your best. Chen combined those life lessons with resiliency in his golf career and continues to do so in his professional career.

He played high school golf in Sugar Land, Texas (southwest of Houston). “I got used to playing in scorching heat and high humidity,” he recalled. “It built a lot of character grinding in that kind of heat.” He occasionally played with Jordan Spieth, the former number one player in the world who captured The Masters and the U.S. Open in 2015 and the Open Championship in 2017. “I was paired with Jordan in the final round in the Byron Nelson Junior Championship,” Chen recollected. “I shot par that round and he shot a 62 to beat me by 10 shots. There were a lot of good mentors and people to chase in Texas golf.”
