Jeff Ward Named Brandeis Interim Director of Athletics

From Brandeis University Athletics

Brandeis University has named Jeff Ward as the Interim Director of Athletics, President Ron Liebowitz announced on Tuesday afternoon.

"I am thrilled to join the Brandeis community," Ward said. " The university provides a very special combination of world-class academics with superior intercollegiate athletics.  I'm honored to have the opportunity to work with great coaches and staff on behalf of our students."

Ward served as the Ashmead White Director of Athletics at Bowdoin College from 1998 to 2012. While at Bowdoin, Ward oversaw the Polar Bears' 31 teams and 700 student-athletes per year. Under his guidance, Bowdoin teams won three NCAA Division III national championships and reached the semifinals or finals six other times. Polar Bear teams won 21 New England Small College Athletic Conference championships and won over 60 percent of their NESCAC contests.

Ward also oversaw the addition of 40-million-dollar athletic facilities on the Brunswick, Maine, campus. He founded and directed the Polar Bear Athletic Fund to aid in athletic fundraising and helped implement a comprehensive student-athlete leadership program.

Prior to his time at Bowdoin, Ward served as an assistant director of athletics at Brown University and as the head coach of women's swimming and diving at Columbia University. Ward is a 1978 graduate of Dartmouth College who received his M.A. in Higher and Adult Education Administration from Columbia in 1986.

Since 2014, Ward had served as Chief Program Officer at Asphalt Green, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting individuals of all ages and backgrounds to achieve health through a lifetime of sports and fitness.
