Seniors Conclude Careers, Lead CWRU Men to 80-66 Win at CMU

Senior guard Tim Chung (Cypress, Calif./Los Alamitos) scored 19 points, and senior center David Thompson (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) posted a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds as the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team wrapped up the 2014 campaign with an 80-66 win at University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) on Saturday evening at Skibo Gymnasium.

The Spartans (14-11, 6-8 UAA) match the program's win total from 2009-10 as third-most in program history. Swept by CWRU this season, the Tartans (11-14, 4-10 UAA) drop their final three games of 2014.

Playing in their final career games, Chung and Thompson led three scorers in double-figures.

Chung hit four three-pointers to add to his school single-season record total (75), and he finishes fourth all-time in program history with 176 for his career. Thompson's 12th double-double of the year gives the senior captain 935 points and 652 rebounds for his career. He finishes fourth in program history in career boards.

Three Tartans also scored in double-figures led by Christian Manoli with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

The Spartans trailed 7-4 at the 17:47 mark of the first half before a 13-2 run ending in a Thompson layup at 12:21 put the visitors ahead, 17-9. CWRU would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way and built a 43-28 halftime advantage as junior forward Dane McLoughlin (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) hit a jumper to account for the final points.

In the second, the Spartans' lead reached 18 (58-40) when sophomore point guard Jimmy Holman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) hit a jumper with 13:12 remaining. The hosts would were unable to threaten the lead for the duration.

McLoughlin was the third Spartan in double-figures with 13 points and eight rebounds. He will enter his senior campaign next season with 956 career points.
