CWRU Earns Team Academic Excellence Award; Four Named to NABC Honors Court,

Led by four National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court selections, Case Western Reserve University has earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the second consecutive season.  

Recent graduate David Thompson (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) is a member of the NABC Honors Court for the second straight year. Rising seniors Connor Edel (Akron, Ohio /Revere), Brian Klements (Willoughby Hills, Ohio/Willoughby South) and Dane McLoughlin (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) are all first-time honorees.

To qualify for the NABC Honors Court, players must be a junior or senior academically, possess a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, and have matriculated at least one year at their institution.

Thompson graduated this past spring with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting as well as a Master of Science in Accountancy. He was named a Capital One Academic All-American® and a finalist for the Jostens Trophy. A second-team All-University Athletic Association selection, Thompson was one of the conference's top players with averages of 15.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.

McLoughlin was also named to the All-UAA Second Team. He averaged 14.8 ppg and will enter his senior campaign with 956 career points.

As a team, the Spartans maintained a GPA of 3.17 in 2013-14. Individually, five of the team's 10 second year or higher players earned UAA All-Academic honors, given to student-athletes who have completed at least one full year of college study and who carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30

In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, a program must count the grade point averages of all of its student-athletes competing during the 2013-14 season.
