David Thompson of CWRU Named To Capital One Academic All-America® Second Team

Case Western Reserve University senior center David Thompson (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men's Basketball Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

A second-team selection, Thompson maintains a 3.80 grade point average as accounting major. He will graduate this May with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting as well as a Master of Science in accountancy.

Voted a co-captain for the 2013-14 season, Thompson is a three-time University Athletic Association All-Academic honoree and a 2014 Capital One Academic All-District VII Men's Basketball First Team selection. 

On the court, Thompson is enjoying his finest collegiate season with team-best averages of 16.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. 

He ranks eighth in the UAA in scoring, first in rebounding and first in blocked shots. He is a two-time UAA Player of the Week and a three-time all-tournament team selection this season.  

The Capital One Academic All-America® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception, a total of 80 Case Western Reserve student-athletes have been named Academic All-American®. That number includes 21 combined over the past four-plus academic years.
