From Emory University Athletics

Seniors McPherson Moore and Jake Davis combined for 47 points in leading the Emory men's basketball team to a Senior Day win on Sunday over Brandeis University.  The Eagles won their fourth straight game and raised their overall record to 17-7, 9-4 in the league, following an 85-80 decision over the Judges who slipped to 12-12 overall, 4-9 in the league.

Moore totaled a team-high 25 points, closing out the contest converting eight-of-11 from the field, including two triples, in registering his fourth straight and 10^th performance of 20 or more points this season.  Davis contributed 22 points, his 15^th effort of 20 or more points this season, knocking down six field goals and 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.  Junior Alex Foster came through with another solid outing, scoring 16 of his 18 points over the final 20 minutes of play, and topping all players with 12 rebounds, his second double-double of the year.

After a three-point field goal by Derek Retos, one of his seven triples on the day, gave Brandeis a 79-78 lead with 1:44 left in the contest,  Emory took the lead for good on its next possession when Davis converted a three-point play with 47 seconds remaining.  After the Judges converted one of two free throws, a pair of charity tosses by sophomore Will Trawick extended the Eagles' lead to 83-80.  After BU misfired on a three-point attempt in its next possession, Davis closed out the scoring with two makes from the foul line.  Emory rallied from a seven-point deficit after Brandeis used a 9-2 scoring spurt, with Gabriel Moton scoring five points in that stretch, to claim a 57-50 advantage with 16:30 left on the contest.  BU maintained a five-point margin before a 6-0 Emory spurt, finished by a layup by Foster put Emory ahead by a 65-64 count with 10:06 on the clock. From that point, there would be six lead changes from the 9:15 mark left in the game until Davis's three-point play that put Emory ahead for good.

Emory shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the floor compared to the Judges' 40.6 percent (26-of-64).  Brandeis held an advantage in three-point field goals, hitting 10 triples to Emory's five, but the Eagles were successful on 28-of-33 from the foul line while BU converted 18-of-25.

With Retos leading the way with 15 points, Brandeis took a 45-41 lead into halftime.  Moore scored 19 first-half points, hitting seven field goals in 10 attempts, while Davis tallied 12 points, to pace the Emory attack.  The Judges were successful on 44.1 percent from the floor (15-of-34) during the opening 20 minutes of play while the Eagles hit 40 percent (14-of-35).

With the win this afternoon, Emory clinches a tie for second place in the UAA.  The Eagles close out the regular season next Saturday (Mar. 1) with a contest at Rochester.
