Senior forward Dane McLoughlin (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) scored a game-high 22 points, and the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team defeated Penn State New Kensington, 97-68, on the second day of the CMU DoubleTree Invitational at Skibo Gymnasium.
The Spartans improve to 5-1 for the second season in a row and second time since 2007. The Lions drop to 1-3.
McLoughlin shot 8-for-13 from the field and 6-for-11 from three-point range. With a combined 40 points over the weekend, McLoughlin was named to the all-tournament team along with senior guard Julien Person (Paris, France/Second Baptist, Texas).
In a game where 14 different Spartans found the scoring column, sophomore Mac Hartman (New Wilmington, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) contributed a career-high 11 points off of the bench.
At 11:53 in the first half, freshman forward Eric Black (Avon Lake, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) hit a free throw to tie the game at 17-17. The Spartans then went on a 14-2 run and remained ahead of the Lions for the duration with the largest point margin of 37 coming at 6:38 in the second half.
Person finished with eight points and three assists, while senior point guard Jordan Dean (St. Johns, Fla./Creekside) recorded eight points and five helpers.
Dorian Broadwater led Penn State New Kensington with 26 points, while Ahman Muhammad added 23.
