Spartans Top Carnegie Mellon, 80-46, in UAA Opener

Freshman forward Eric Black (Avon Lake, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) recorded his first career double-double to lead the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team in an 80-46 victory over rival Carnegie Mellon University in the 2015 University Athletic Association opener at Skibo Gymnasium.

The Spartans are now 10-2, adding to the best start in program history. The Tartans fall to 9-3.

In 23 minutes off of the bench, Black posted 15 points and game-high 10 rebounds. In addition, junior point guard Jimmy Holman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored a season-high 13 points while contributing four assists. Also scoring in double-digits for the Spartans, senior guard Julien Person (Paris, France/Second Baptist, Texas) registered 11 points and four boards.

The Tartans were led by Seth Cordts with 15 points.

The Spartans scored 52 points off of the bench compared to the Tartans' 21 and held decided advantages in rebounding (55-33) and points off of turnovers (26-8).

In the first half, the Spartans led 19-8 following a layup by Black with 10:31 on the clock. The lead was extended to 17 when senior point guard Jordan Dean (St. Johns, Fla./Creekside) hit a layup at the buzzer to make the score 37-20.

In the second, the Spartans maintained their lead throughout and led by as much as 35 (64-29)following a three-pointer from junior guard Matt Clark (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University) with 9:31 remaining.
