From Emory University Athletics

Emory University senior Alex Foster (Portland, OR) has earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week following his performances in victories against Bates College (Dec. 29), Union College (Dec. 30) and Virginia Wesleyan (Jan. 3).  It is the first time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.

Foster, who was also recognized as the University Athletic Association Player of the Week for his exploits over the three-game stretch, tossed in 27.3 points and grabbed 6.7 rebounds per outing in helping the squad raise its overall record to 10-1, tying the program's second-best 11-game record in school history.   The 6-foot-8 Foster exploded for 35 points, his second-highest career mark, and picked off a game-high 10 rebounds, his fifth double-double of the year, in a 77-64 decision over No. 8-ranked Virginia Wesleyan last Saturday.

Joining Foster on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week are Derrick Jefferson (Hardin-Simmons), Brandon Angradi (Dickinson), Jack Serbin (Carnegie Mellon) and Brandon Flannery (Babson).

Through games played Jan. 6, Foster leads the UAA in scoring with an average of 23.7 points per game.  In addition, he ranks fourth on the league ladder in rebounding (9.5 rpg), 10th in three-point field goal shooting (.418, 33-of-79) and 12th in field goal percentage (.495, 92-of-186). He has scored in double digits in all 11 games and has nine outings of 20 or more points to his credit including a pair of 30-plus point contests.

On the team front, Emory moved up one spot to No. 6 in this week's D3hoops.com Men's Top 25 Poll with 504 points. UAA rival Washington University stands first with 622 points while Augustana (598) and UW-Whitewater (560 pts) are second and third, respectively. Dickinson (522 pts.) and St. Thomas (511 pts.) round out the top five.
