Emory's Alex Foster Named South Region Player Of The Year By D3hoops.com

From Emory University Athletics

Emory University senior Alex Foster was recognized for his outstanding 2014-15 campaign with his selection as the South Region Player of the Year as chosen by D3hoops.com.  Foster is the first Eagle in program history to earn the award.

The 6-foot-8 Foster, named earlier as the University Athletic Association Player of the Year, closed out a memorable season by leading the conference in scoring, tossing in 20.1 points-per-game with that mark the third-highest in program history.  A double-figure scorer in 26 of the squad's 28 outings, Foster manufactured 15 contests of 20 or more points including three of 30-plus points.  He led the Emory scoring attack on 18 occasions and was the team's top rebounder in 14 contests.   Foster knocked down 71 three-point field goals, tied for third on the school's seasonal chart, and had a 27-game streak with at least one trey to his credit, the sixth longest in program history.  Foster grabbed a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game, good for the No. 4 position on the UAA list, and snatched 10 or more boards in six outings.  He was named the UAA Player of the Week four times and was a two-time selection to the Team of the Week as chosen by D3hoops.com.

Tied with classmate Michael Florin for the No. 1 spot on Emory's all-time list with 108 games played, Foster closed out his four-year run with the program 12th in scoring (1,097 pts.), 10th in field goals (396), eighth in three-point field goals (140),  ninth in rebounds (525) and 13th in free throw percentage (.795, 165-of-208).

Foster helped Emory to an overall record of 22-6 and a berth in the Round of 16 in the NCAA D-III Tournament.  The team's win total was the second-highest in school annals and the fourth time in the 29-year history of the program that it reached the 20-win plateau.

Joining Foster on the D3hoops.com All-Region First Team were Matt McCarthy (Guilford), Larry Thomas (Birmingham Southern), Khory Moore (Virginia Wesleyan) and Anthony Gaines Jr. (Louisiana College).

Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The All-American teams will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men's and women's championships.

This is the 14th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 18th annual All-America selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
