The Case Western Reserve University Spartans utilized a big second-half effort on Tuesday night to pick up a road win at Baldwin Wallace University, 88-83 over the Yellow Jackets.

Case Western Reserve improved to 2-1 on the year, while Baldwin Wallace dropped to 1-1.

Sophomore forward Eric Black scored all 18 of his points in the second half with a nine-for-ten effort from the field during the frame.  Senior guard Jimmy Holman led the team with 21 points, including five three pointers, and added four assists.  Senior guard Matt Clark added 17 points to go along with a team-best seven rebounds.

CWRU fell into the early hole in the game, trailing the Yellow Jackets by 11, 19-8, with 9:46 left in the first half.  The Spartans would start to work their way back into the contest, pulling to within one on a Javier Alvarez steal and layup with 3:42 to play in the first.  Baldwin Wallace built their lead back to eight points with 1:52 remaining, but Case Western Reserve closed the half on a 10-0 run, including a three-point shot by Holman with five second left, that gave the Spartans their first lead since the early minutes of the game, 35-33.

Holman led the Spartans in the early going, finishing the first half with 13 points, shooting three-for-five from long range during the frame.

CWRU's run would continue into the second half, as the Spartans scored 13 of the first 18 points during the period to open up a 10-point lead, 48-38, forcing a Baldwin Wallace timeout with 15:56 remaining.  The Spartans continued to hit shots after the timeout, connecting on nine of their first 10 field goal attempts in the second half all together, and building a 14-point on a Clark layup with 9:26 remaining, 63-49.

Baldwin Wallace would cut the Spartans' advantage to as few as nine, but CWRU responded again, taking a game-high 19 point lead on an Eric Black layup with 3:23 to play.  The Yellow Jackets rallied late, pulling within five, 83-78, after a pair of three pointers on consecutive possessions by Cameron Kuhn with 34 seconds left in the game, but Clark hit a pair of free throws with 25 seconds remaining, and sophomore Colin Zucker added two more with 15 seconds left to secure the win for the Spartans.

Baldwin Wallace's Kuhn scored a career-high 28 points during the game, and Jake Fetherolf notched a double-double for the Yellow Jackets with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
