NYU Receives Top-10 Preseason Ranking

The New York University men's basketball team has received a top-10 preseason ranking by the Sporting News which recently published its October 2015-16 preseason basketball preview issue.

The Violets, who finished 19-9 last year, are returning four of five starters. Among them is senior co-captain Evan Kupferberg, who is rated as a preseason First Team All-American. The Boca Raton, FL, native finished the 2014-15 season leading the Violets in total points, shooting percentage, rebounding and minutes, and was second in points per game and blocks. Kupferberg received First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA), D3Hoops.com First Team All-East Region and was also named Jewish Sports Review First Team All-American.

Fellow seniors Costis Gontikas and Patrick Burns are also returning, as well as sophomore Ross Udine. During the 2014-15 season, Gontikas led the team in blocks and received Honorable Mention All-UAA honors. Burns started in 21 games and finished second on the team in shooting percentage. Udine led the Violets in assists and was named UAA Co-Rookie of the Year.

NYU made its last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012.

Head Coach Joe Nesci returns for his 28th season with the Violets. He has produced an overall record of 474-232 (.671) during his tenure at NYU.
