For the second straight season, Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball junior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) was named to the Academic All-America Division III Men's Basketball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday, March 1. Serbin found a spot on the 2016 second team after being named to the third team a year ago.
    
Serbin was named to the Academic All-District 4 team in early February, allowing his name to be placed on the national ballot.

Serbin, one of just two juniors to be honored, led the Tartans averaging 18.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He became the 19th player in program history to crack the 1,000-point barrier and finished the season with 1,073 career points. The junior recorded 16 double-doubles this season which tied him for first in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and ranks ninth nationally.  He ranks sixth nationally and first in the UAA with 8.48 defensive rebounds per game. 

Serbin also is tops in the UAA in total rebounds and second in scoring. In 23 of the 25 games he played, the 6-foot-9-inch swingman recorded double figures while recording 20 or more in seven. This season he also recorded career highs in points (37) and rebounding (20) and became the first Tartan to average a double-double in back-to-back seasons.

In the classroom, Serbin carries a 3.79 GPA as a business administration major. He has made Dean's List with high honors every semester and is a member of the Carnegie Mellon Wall Street Club. He spent the summer as a financial analyst for L Brands.

Serbin becomes the eighth player in program history to receive the prestigious honor and the second two-time honoree.
