Jared Seltzer's 25 Points Help Rochester Hold Off Carnegie Mellon

From University of Rochester Athletics

The University of Rochester men's basketball team was able to hold off a late second half run by Carnegie Mellon, to defeat the Tartans 66-63 this afternoon at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

With the win, Rochester improves to 10-6 overall on the season, with a 3-2 mark in the University Athletic Association.

Senior Jared Seltzer was one point away from matching his career high 26 points for the second consecutive game. Seltzer finished the game with a double-double, 26 points and 10 rebounds. He also added three assists and one steal on the afternoon.

Junior Sam Borst-Smith added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Michael Managan added 5 points in the victory after leaving the game for a period of time in the first half, where he lost two of his front teeth after coming down hard to floor after a layup.

Three Carnegie Mellon starters finished in double figures; Ryan Maha led the way for the Tartans with 19, Chris Shkil finished with 18 points and 9 rebounds, and Jack Serbin finished with a double-double (14 points and 13 rebounds).

The first half saw both teams struggle from the field early, but as the game went on each team put together a sting of runs to keep the game close throughout the afternoon. Rochester finished the game shooting 37% from the field and only 25% from three-point range. Much different than their game Friday night against Case Western Reserve University where the Yellowjackets scored 108 points and shot 45% from the field and 48% from three-point range.
