From Emory University Athletics

Five different Eagles registered double-digit points as the Emory University Men's Basketball team used a balanced offensive attack to earn its first win of the season Friday night, defeating William Peace University, 100-80, at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

This marks the 46th time in program history that the Eagles have hit the century mark in points and the first time since Emory topped crosstown foe Oglethorpe University, 104-77, on November 18th, 2014. In those 46 contests, the Eagles have recorded a 41-5 won-lost ledger, and are 14-1 in such games during Head Coach Jason Zimmerman's tenure.

The Eagles shot a blistering 54.5-percent from the field (36-for-66) and an outstanding 44.8-percent (13-for-29) from behind the arc en route to the 20-point victory. Junior Christopher Avant led the Eagles on Friday, pouring in a career-high 22 points and grabbing a personal-best nine rebounds in only 18 minutes. Senior Jonathan Terry netted 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and knocked down four triples on seven attempts. Senior Jim Gordon and junior Donald Avant added 12 points apiece while junior Adam Gigax chipped in with 10 of his own. Junior Whit Rappfacilitated the offensive outburst, dishing out a game-high nine assists.

Emory fell behind early in the first half, trailing the Pacers 18-11 at the 12:30 mark. However, the Eagles battled back using a 15-5 run capped off by one of Terry's four long balls to take their first lead of the contest, 26-23, with 7:45 remaining in the opening half. Emory never trailed over the final 27:45 minutes of action, seeing its lead balloon to as many as 23 points in the second half (94-71).
