The New York University men's basketball team defeated host John Jay College 63-50 on Tuesday, November 22, in Manhattan.
NYU (3-0) scored nine straight points late in the first half to break a 23-23 tie and eventually take a 32-25 lead into halftime over the Bloodhounds (0-4). Senior captain Joe Timmes hit two of the Violets' five first-half three-pointers and led the squad with 10 points at the break.
In the second half, it was Ross Udine who took control of the game late. The junior captain scored 13 of his game-high 19 points after halftime, including five straight to give NYU its first double-digit lead of the night.
"It was a tough road game for us and we had some stretches where we struggled to score, but our two leaders did a great job of lifting us through those rough spots," said NYU Assistant Coach Taylor Roth.
The Violets' defense gave the John Jay offense trouble all night, holding the Bloodhounds to just 29 percent shooting (20-69) in the contest.
"We tell the guys that sometimes its tough to succeed offensively on the road, but its important to always bring your best defense," added Roth. "We did that tonight. I thought Cameron Moore did a great job to shut down their top player, especially in the second half.
