From Emory University Athletics

Emory University's Whit Rapp (Noblesville, IN) has earned a berth on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2016-17 Honors Court, recognizing those men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season.

In order to qualify for the Honors Court, the following criteria have to be met:

1. Academically, the player must be a junior or senior.

2. Cumulative grade-point-average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year.

3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.

Rapp came through with an outstanding junior campaign in '16-17, doling out a school-record 230 assists. His 8.5 assists-per-game average established a program season record, ranked first among UAA players and stood third nationally.  Named to the All-UAA Honorable Mention Team, he registered 10 outings of 10 or more assists including a school-record 16 vs. New York University.  A business administration major, Rapp sports a GPA of 3.35.

Rapp's effort in the classroom helped Emory earn a spot on the fifth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards, created by the NABC Committee on Academics. These awards recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season.

The Emory men's basketball team finished this past year with an overall record of 19-8 and made the program's fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament, advancing to the Round of 32.
