For the third straight season, Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) was named to the Academic All-America Division III Men's Basketball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). On Tuesday, February 28, Serbin found a spot on the 2017 first team after being named to the second team a year ago and third team following his sophomore campaign.

Serbin becomes the ninth player in program history to receive the prestigious honor and the first three-time honoree. He is also the fourth Tartan first-team honoree. Serbin was named to the Academic All-District 4 team in early February, allowing his name to be placed on the national ballot.

The recently named first team All-UAA member led the Tartans averaging 17.7 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. The senior recorded 16 double-doubles this season, which ranks top in the UAA and 16th nationally.  He ranks eighth nationally and first in the UAA with 8.76 defensive rebounds per game.  For the second straight season, Serbin is tops in the UAA in total rebounds and second in scoring.  The 6-foot-9-inch swingman recorded nine contests of 20 or more points and scored in double figures in 21 of 25 games. This marked the third straight season he has averaged a double-double.

Serbin finished the regular season ranked second on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,516 points, second in blocks with 180 and third in rebounding with 934 boards. He needs 54 points to become the school's all-time leading scorer.

In the classroom, Serbin carries a 3.77 GPA as a business administration major. He has made Dean's List with high honors every semester and is a member of the Carnegie Mellon Tepper Finance Group. He has spent the past two summers as a financial analyst for L Brands and an investment banking analyst for Jefferies LLC.
