The University of Chicago men's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and rolled to an 80-60 victory at New York University on Sunday afternoon.

The Maroons improved to 15-9 overall and 7-6 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Violets dropped to 7-17 and 2-11 in conference.

Senior forward Blaine Crawford provided the first four points of the game and junior guard Jake Fenlon subsequently sank two three-pointers. Senior forward Waller Perez then tallied six of the next nine points and UChicago took a 20-6 lead. The visitors never trailed in the game.

The Maroons drew ahead 36-16 late in the half and went into the break with a 39-21 lead. UChicago held NYU to 25 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes and pulled down 15 more rebounds. Crawford absorbed numerous fouls and went to the free throw line for 10 attempts. He recorded nine points and nine rebounds up to that point. Perez led all scorers with 12 points.

In the second half, UChicago's opening five field goals were all three-pointers, with two each by junior forward Collin Barthel and Fenlon. Barthel in particular got rolling offensively with 14 points in the half en route to a team-high 18 points in the game. He posted a double-double by also pulling in 10 rebounds.

The Maroons maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game and cruised to the 20-point victory. Perez was second on the team with 17 points. Crawford collected his 11th double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Fenlon scored 14 points and dished out four assists.

UChicago shot 42.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range (8-24). NYU was limited to 33.3 percent on field goals and only made 1 of 19 from deep. The Maroons dominated rebounds 56-40, but turned the ball over 18 times compared to eight by the Violets.
