From Washington University Athletics

Washington University in St. Louis freshman guard Jack Nolan was named the 2018 D3hoops.com Central Region Rookie of the Year, the website announced Wednesday.

"Jack had a great year for us as a freshman and was able to significantly contribute to the success of a veteran team. To receive recognition as the Freshman of the Year in one of the most talent rich basketball regions in the country is quite an honor," said WashU head coach Mark Edwards. "I am confident that he will have many more accomplishments at WashU during the next three years. I congratulate him on a well deserved honor."

Nolan, an honorable-mention all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, appeared in all 26 games in his rookie campaign at shooting guard and averaged 11.6 points per game. He shot 50.5 percent from the field, and was second in the UAA in three-point field-goal percentage (.466) and fifth in three-pointers made (61).

Nolan scored in double figures 16 times this season, including a career-high 23 points in a 95-69 win at Illinois Wesleyan University Dec. 17. He also connected on 28-of-29 (96.6%) from the free-throw line, including the last 25 straight. Nolan was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Dec. 18 and earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors on Jan. 22.

WashU finished the season with a 22-4 overall record, the program's 18th 20-win season. The Bears won their 15th UAA championship to earn the league's automatic bid and made their 21st NCAA Tournament appearance.
