Jacob Wittig and Patrick Benka Post Career-Highs in Rochester Win Over NYU

The UR men's basketball improved to 16-8 on the year and 7-6 in UAA with a 20 point victory over NYU on Sunday afternoon in the Palestra. Jacob Wittig had a huge game for the Yellowjackets as they went on to win by a score of 92-72.
 
Wittig put up a career best 26 points on 9-12 shooting with 18 coming in the first half. The junior added five assists and two steals in 31 minutes. Patrick Benka was the other big scorer for Rochester as he posted a career high 17 while going a perfect 3-3 from long range.
 
Andrew Lundstrom and Ryan Clamage added to UR's scoring output with 11 points apiece. Clamage led the team with eight assists and also had five rebounds. Jacob Urban scored eight points while grabbing 7 rebounds. Michael Mangan and Tucker Knox chipped in six points each.
 
Leading the scoring for NYU was Ethan Feldman with 15 points. Ross Udine added 14 while going 4-5 from three-point range. Jimmy Martinelli had a double-double for NYU with 13 points and 10 boards. Dom Cristiano had eight points and seven rebounds while Bobby Hawkinson and Ted Georgiadis both had seven points.
 
It was a back and forth beginning to the game before UR went on an 8-0 run to go up 23-12 close to the midway point in the first half. NYU got it back to a four-point game at the seven-minute mark before Rochester went on another run to extend their lead to 50-36 at the half.
 
NYU came out of the half shooting the three point shot well, with three long range buckets in the opening minutes, but UR was able to keep pace with triples of their own from Wittig and Brendan O'Shea.
 
The turnover differential was the story of the matchup with NYU committing 22 turnovers, contributing to 39 Rochester points. NYU had just five points off turnovers.
 
Rochester shot 54% from the field on the day and 40% from behind the arc. The Yellowjackets were 18-22 from the free throw line on the day and got 30 points from their bench.
