Mark Edwards to Be Inducted into Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

Former Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball coach Mark Edwards will be among 18 individuals inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in an enshrinement ceremony Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis.

In addition, current WashU and former St. Louis Rams Team Physician Dr. Matt Matava will also be inducted.

The Enshrinement begins with a reception at Noon, followed by the banquet and ceremony at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $150 each or $1,500 for a table of 10.

In addition, The Incarnate Word Academy Basketball Program and the Christian Brothers College High School Soccer Program also will be inducted. Additionally, longtime Mercy executive Donn Sorensen will be honored with the President's Award, given to an individual who champions sports and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame across the state.

Edwards, who led the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Division III National Championships in 2008 and 2009, posted a 685-293 (.700) overall record. He is a three-time Division III National Coach of the Year and 10-time University Athletic Association (UAA) Coach of the Year honoree.

Edwards ranks ninth all-time in NCAA Division III wins with 685, and became the 12thDivision III coach to win 600 or more games in a career.

Over his final 32 seasons, the Bears enjoyed their most success, winning 20 or more games 18 times, participating in 21 NCAA tournaments, and finishing first or second 25 of 31 times in the UAA. WashU's 31-year record in the UAA – 330-101 (.766 winning percentage) – is the league's best mark since its inception in 1987-88.

In addition, 20 student-athletes earned 30 All-America awards under Edwards, along with eight Academic All-America honorees. He also led the Bears to a school-record 34-consecutive winning seasons.

Edwards was inducted into the WashU Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
