Yellowjackets Complete Successful Weekend With Win Over NYU

The Rochester men's team played efficiently on both sides of the ball en route to a 72-64 win over New York University on Sunday at the Louis Alexander Palestra. 

An opening 14-4 run by the Yellowjackets (15-7, 6-5 UAA) got them off to a quick start against NYU (8-14, 1-10 UAA). Ryan Algier was responsible for six points during the stretch. He finished the game with a double-double that included 14 points and 10 boards. 

Aggressive defense in the early stages from UR held NYU under 40% from the field over the first half. 

Ross Gang played at a high level, accounting for 11 points and four assists in the first half. He ended with 12 points and dished five assists. 

Rochester led by as many as 17 before entering halftime with a 39-28 lead.

Contributions from first-year Mitchell Kershner in the second half allowed him to finish the game with a season-high 11 points.

The deep threat of Patrick Benka resulted in 10 points and three rebounds on Sunday. Three of his made baskets were from beyond the arc. 

The Yellowjackets relied on an abundance of free throws in the second half in order to retain their lead. They finished the game 22-of-28 (78.6%) from the charity stripe. 

UR finished 21-of-47 (44.7%) from the field and 8-of-28 (28.6%) from deep.
