From NYU Athletics
The New York University men's fencing team hosted a
variety of top-ranked opponents at the NYU Invitational on Sunday,
January 25, at the Cobra Fencing Club in Jersey City,
NJ.
The Violets (4-7) went 1-4 on the afternoon, defeating Wayne
State University 26-1 in their second match of the day. NYU swept
the sabre and foil competitions against the Warriors and won eight
of nine in epee.
NYU suffered losses to #2 University of Notre Dame (19-8), #3
Ohio State University (20-7), #5 St. John's University (20-7), and
Yale University (14-13).
Highlights:
- NYU's epee team won three of its five competitions, earning
victories against Wayne State, Notre Dame and Yale.
- Hans Engel was most impressive for NYU at
the Invitational. The freshman went 11-3 to lead the Violets' epee
team.
- John Cramerus also had a successful day
for the epee squad, winning 10 of 15.
- Quinten Burgunder led the Violets' sabre
squad with seven wins on the day.
- Philip Shin and Daniel Sconzo earned 10
and seven wins, respectively, for NYU's foil team.
