The New York University men's fencing team hosted two Division I
squads and one Division III squad on Tuesday night, February 10, at
the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets defeated Division III Vassar College 15-12 and Division
I Sacred Heart University 20-7, before falling to Division I
Columbia University 19-8.
NYU, now 11-10 this season, was led by a strong performance by its
foil team. That squad won against all three opponents. Phil Shin
led the way for the foilists with an overall 7-2
record. Daniel Sconzo went 6-2,
while Yash Srivastav posted a 4-0 record in
the weapon.
"Our guys fenced well tonight, especially a strong performance
from our foil team," said Head CoachSteve Mormando.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Several epee team members also produced solid outings, led
by Hans Engel (6-3) John
Cramerus (5-4), and Malcolm
Lewis (3-3),
- Quinten Burgunder led the sabre squad with
three victories.
- The Violets have posted a 7-2 record over their last nine
dual meets
"It's been a while since we've been over .500 this season," added
Mormando. "It's a credit to our fencers that they've continued to
work hard and battle back to finish with a winning record."
The Violets have now completed the dual-meet portion of the 2014-15
schedule.
