From NYU Athletics

Several members of the New York University men's and women's fencing teams competed at the North American Cup (NAC) from Friday-Monday, January 8-11, in St. Louis, MO.

Mickey Bak was the individual standout for the Violets. The freshman posted a 9-1 record in the junior men's sabre competition on Friday en route to a tie for third place and a share of the bronze medal. Additionally, he posted a 6-5 record in Division I Men's Sabre en route to an eighth-place finish on Sunday.

"Mickey was terrific," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "He's having an outstanding freshman season."

Additionally, NYU had three teams -- men's foil, women's epee, women's sabre -- place third and earn bronze medals in the senior competitions.

The men's foil team of Daniel Sconzo, Philip Shin and Kyle Welch, and the women's epee team of Hannah Bennett, Stephanie Cunningham, Karen Fich, and Joanna Tabor competed on Monday.

NYU's third-place women's sabre team, which was comprised of Maria Free, Erika Levine, Jacqueline Tubbs, and Cydney Williams, competed on Friday.

"Fabulous performances from all of our fencers," said Mormando.
