Brandeis Fencers Hit The West Coast

Over the semester break, the Brandeis University fencing team traveled to the West Coast to take part in the CalTech West Invitational. The men came away with a 4-2 record.

The saber and foil squads each won four of six showdowns, including three 9-0 wins for the saber squad.

INDIVIDUAL TOP PERFORMANCES – MEN

  • Junior Kyle Berney (Shreveport, La. / Caddo Magnet) led the way for the men's saber squad, going 10-3 with perfect 3-0 records against UCSD and Air Force and a 2-0 mark against Incarnate Word. Berney earned UAA Men's Fencer of the Week for his efforts.
  • Rookie saber Shawn Pyatetsky (Fair Lawn, N.J. / Fair Lawn) lost just once in seven matches.
  • A trio of rookies paced the men's foil squad. Sam Chestna (Middleboro, Mass. / Homeschooled) and Trevor Filseth (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) each went 3-0 against both CalTech and Florida, while Ian Quin (Ramsey, N.J. / Ramsey) was 6-3 overall, including 3-0 against Florida.
