The Brandeis fencing teams each split their six matches today at the 2019 Eric Sollee Invitational hosted by MIT.

On the men's side, sabre went 4-2 to lead the way. Senior Leon Rotenstein (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) posted a 9-5 record in five matches, while three others tied with seven wins each, including junior Shawn Pyatetsky (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn), who lost only twice. Men's foil went 3-3 with a balanced lineup that saw six different fencers contributed between four and six wins. Men's epee was also 3-3, with junior Chris Armstrong (Highland Park, Ill.Highland Park) pacing the squad with an 11-6 record, the most wins of any male for the Judges at the meet.

In the annual UAA showdown with NYU, the Violets prevailed in both showdowns. For the men, NYU swept all three weapons by 7-2 scores to take a 21-6 decision. For the women, it was a 6-3 win for epee, but foil was edged, 5-4, while sabre fell, 7-2.
