From NYU Athletics

Four members of New York University's men's and women's fencing teams have been selected to compete at the NCAA National Championships, which are being held Thursday-Sunday, March 21-24, at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center in Cleveland, OH.

From the NYU men's team, the trio of sophomore Zohaib Mannan and seniors Kyle Welch and Mickey Bak will represent the Violets, while sophomore Tiffany Luong will be the lone competitor from the women's team.

Mannan, with an overall season record of 44-18, finished sixth in the foil competition at last weekend's NCAA Regional Championship at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He earned All-America honors at last year's NCAA Championship with a 10th-place finish.

Welch, who sports a 28-14 record, will also be competing in foil. He finished in 10th place at last weekend's regional championships and will be making his first NCAA National Championship appearance.

Bak, who will be competing in sabre, will be making his third trip to the NCAA Championship. He finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 28-17 record and posted a sixth-place finish at the regional championships.

Luong, who enters the national competition with a team-best foil record of 48-19, finished 15th in the nation at last year's NCAA Championship. A two-time bronze medalist at the NIWFA Championships, she placed seventh out of 41 foil competitors at last weekend's NCAA Regional Championships.

The first two days of competition at the NCAA Championships will feature the men's weapons, while the women's competition will be held Saturday and Sunday. Each of the four day's events will begin at 9:00am.
