From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University golf team competed in the
one-day, 36-hole, Vulcan Invitational hosted by California
University of Pennsylvania at the Cedarbrook Golf Course, Saturday,
April 19. The Tartans carded team scores of 318 and 301 to
finish second out of seven teams with a 619.
The host, Vulcans, shot a two round score of 610 (311-299) to win
their home event by nine strokes over the Tartans. California
freshman Alex Patricio won a three-hole playoff over Hunter
Bagiatis of Washington & Jefferson to earn medalist honors with
a two round score of 149.
Senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy)
and freshman George Qian(Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy)
tied for ninth individually with a 154. Bangor carded an
opening round of 81 before ended the day with a one-over par
73. Qian fired back-to-back rounds of 77.
Sophomore Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan)
finished a stroke back with a 155 (79-76) while junior Cameron
Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) was a stroke behind DuCarme
with a 156 (81-75). Freshman Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.)
played in the fifth spot for the Tartans on Saturday and ended the
day with a 170 (84-86).
Carnegie Mellon had one individual enter the invitational,
as Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) had rounds of 82 and 80
to finish with a 162.
