The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 11 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania. The Tartans entered two teams into the Shootout with the 'B' squad appearing as individuals on the official results. The Tartans 'B' Team currently leads the field after firing a 294 Saturday on the par-70 course.
Tartan freshman Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy), who is playing on Carnegie Mellon's 'B' Team, is the individual leader after Saturday's round shooting a three-under par 67. Del Bosque's round tied a school record.
The Tartans 'A' Team sits one stroke back with a 295 followed by Point Park with a 304 to round out the top three team spots following the first 18-holes.
Sophomores George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) and Jordan Klodowski(Kittanning, Pa.) each fired rounds of one-over par 71 in the opening round. For Klodowski, it marked a career-best round. Senior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) entered the clubhouse on Saturday with a season-low round of three-over par 73. Fellow senior Justin Fischler(Avon, Conn.) carded an 80 while sophomore Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) shot an 83.
The Tartans 'B' Team, led by Del Bosque, saw sophomore Alex Woodward (Aurora, Ontario) and freshman Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) each fire a 75 on Saturday. Mohon's round was a career-low. Sophomores Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) and Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.) shot rounds of 77 and 81, respectively.
Two other individuals competed for the Tartans, as junior Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) shot a 75 and freshman John Shlonsky (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) tabbed an 81.
